Osaka Dan hip-harness & futo momo

Simple, efficient, effective and tied with connection

This tutorial explores Osaka Dan's interpretation of two fundamental ties which are essential for your repertoire and will further enhance your understanding of the principles of our 'ingredients-based' approach. Of special value are his pro tips on how to communicate with rope. I don't mind admitting that this old dog learned a few new tricks, so we are sure you will.

Osaka Dan hip-harness

This hip harness was Dan's first attempt at original rope engineering. The influence was the 'climbing harness' style three-tiered Koshinawa popularized by the Ichinawa-Kai, late last decade. The stem, traditionally running from the belly button down over the pubic mound, was simply rotated to the side over the hip. This Harness has a very narrow, yet effective range of use in side accented hip inversions. For those starting out with suspension, this is an excellent starter tie as it is simple and low risk and more experienced students will appreciate the speed of tying, especially for performance.

An additional tutorial is included focussing on the various options for suspension line attachment and discussing their pros and cons.

You can see the show Dan originally designed it for here:

Futo momo

In the first section, you will learn not only how to tie fast and simple futo momo variants but also some techniques for creating a reaction both when tying and untying.

In the second part, 'Futo momo session', you will learn how to incorporate this tie into a scene to great effect. Knowing the steps of a tie is only part of the story, the real value comes in how you use it and how you apply it. This is an excellent example of connective floor-work.. Look and learn. You partners will thank you for it.
